- Insert audio files
You can easily insert an audio file into PowerPoint by clicking “insert -> movie and sound -> sound from file”. This allows you to link an external audio file inside a slide. Thus when transferring slides to another computer, you need to copy the audio file as well keeping at the same location with the slides. In order to embed an audio file within a slide, you need to do two things:
a) click “tools -> options -> general tab”, change the “link sounds with file size greater than xxx kb” and make it bigger (maximum 50M);
b) convert the audio file into .wav format. You will get a huge file, however, you still can use Microsoft compressed wav file format to get a fairly small wav file. Then embed it into your slides. Done! - Insert video files
Remember, video files cannot be embedded, but always linked.
PowerPoint can only handle avi/mpeg/wmv/asf files as Windows Media Player can handle. If you want to insert a video file from YouTube(http://www.youtube.com), You need to follow the following steps:
a) download the .flv file from YouTube by using online downloader website: www.youtubex.com;
b) convert .flv file to .avi/.mpeg/.asf by using SUPER (http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html#Dnload). I suggest you convert it to .mpg (MPEG-I) or .asf formats, because the converted video can be easily inserted into PowerPoint. Avi format is a bit tricky since it uses MPEG-4 codec. Powerpoint cannot play it if the codec is absent, and you cannot guarantee another computer will have the codec installed.
c) if converting .flv to .swf (still using SUPER), you need to insert an shockwave flash object from the control toolbox toolbar. Then you can specify the path of the .swf file in the properties dialog box, and change “EmbedMovie” to “true” if you want the flash movie embedded.

Videos can absolutely be embedded in PowerPoint slides if you use the Insert Object function.
Click Insert > Object.
Select radio button “create from file”
Browse to your video file location
Click OK
Right-click the movie on your slide and use Custom Animation to activate the package contents on click to start the movie in slide show mode.
Note: Works with most movie type including Quicktime if you have quicktime installed. File size is an issue to be aware of. Movies over 13MB may not play.
The best part is, the movie is embedded in the page. Wherever the slide is moved to, the movie goes with it.

Hi,
I have a powerpoint presentation which has to include 2 video clips, both about 20 seconds long. One works fine. The other I cannot insert. I have created it from Camtasia Studio and published it as both Mpeg 4 and avi. When I try to insert it does not appear to be in the file. The clip that was successful was an Mpeg 4.

Hey!
I am lucky and have been able to insert my video clip into powerpoint but the problem now is; when the clip ends, I thought that it would take me back to the slid ein powerpoint but it doesn’t and I remain in media player. Is there something I am missing – just doesn’t look that slick (if I just insert on the slide, I don’t have the option to stop – move on etc). All help gratefully received.

I am a first time PowerPoint user who is trying to insert movie clips into a presentation. I am using PPT ver. 2007. My problem is that without systematically approaching (read not really paying attention to what I was doing) I inserted a mpg clip and when I went to slide show and played it, it worked. Again, not thinking anything about it I inserted a second movie clip and to my surprise it didn’t work. Thinking it was the mpg I inserted another and it too didn’t work. So I went back and re-inserted the first clip and it didn’t work (I sure you’re getting the picture here). My question is: is there a file size limitation? can you only have 1 movie clip per presentation? Any thoughts and/or assistance anyone can offer. Greatly appreciated, in advance.

your avi file is not playable in your slides, maybe because it is encoded in a way that your default player cannot recognize. thus you can only hear sound but not video.
December 3, 2009 at 10:41 pm
I insert a movie link (.avi file) to my Power Point slide. Eventhough I have the movie file saved in the same folder as my presentation the movie won’t play. In my last try, it would play the sound but not the video. The box remains black… What do I need to do? I have the 2003 version.

to Kiri,
re: file paths – definitely, save PPT files and your MPG files in same folder for transportability
to ALL –
using links for MPg works well-but for even CLEANER presentations, install Media Player Classic, make this the default for your MPEG files, and when you click on the link in PowerPoint, a much cleaner video player comes up, less border than regular media player.
ALSO, set options in MediaPlayerClassic to open each video in same window, if playing multiple video’s – and also do NOT repeat.
then, when video ends, just minimize it; and when you click on next video, MPC is already running, and comes up rapidly
Thanks for good site

It is 2008 already. CAN WE GET THIS TO WORK EASILY ANYTIME SOON??!?!??! Arrrrrrrgh /rant
It works on friends Mac, but in Windows. AVI into a Powerpoint.
July 9, 2008 at 8:37 pm
That sounds strang to me, it should work. or maybe when you linked the video file initially, you used an absolute path of the file, instead you need to use relative path which is just the file name since they are in the same folder. Cheers!

I have recently been linking videos to a powerpoint presentation I am working on. The files link properly when I am in the office, but as soon as I go elsewhere or travel overseas, they don’t and I have to re-link every single one. Does anyone know how I can solve this problem – I have read that ensuring I save the video and the presentation in the same folder may help???
Thanks!
Kiri

Sorry
The Problem was my cheap cost-reduced Toshiba
laptop computer a135-s2246
It is incapable of operating both the onboard
screen and an external one at the same time.

not really sure about that, I don’t have this problem, everything shows correctly in my external display. are you using the same computer? if you’re using different computer, you have to make sure the flash or whatever activeX plugin for PP should be installed as well. Hope this helps!

Using vista basic, office-pp 2000
Video files inserted into presentation
appear normally on computer screen but

Jack, I have been using a product called PFCPro (www.playsforcertain.com) and can not say enough good things about it. IT makes using media a snap and allows things like playing DVDs, using web cams, TV tuners, web based delivery, etc.

Hi Jack, that is not difficult, when you will be free, please let me know. and where are u located? thanks!

Any advice on how to clip a short segment from a DVD and insert into a Power Point presentation? Same with You Tube. I don’t want to show the whole YT clip, just 30 seconds of it. I am willing to pay for help by phone while I do this if you are interested.
Thank You!
